Happy November, everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful and spooky Halloween. In Prescott, there is one street with old (for the southwest) historical houses that goes ALL OUT for Halloween. They close down the entire street for trick or treaters and the entire couple of blocks is full of Halloween parties and scary decorations. We went down there to hang in, take in the sights, and see what the popular costumes were this year! (A lot of blow up costumes of all sorts of things. My favorite is still the tried and true T-rex.) (And as another aside, if you're ever feeling down; may I suggest watching and entire T-rex marching band perform here). Here's what's up at Chain Reaction! From the blog: A lot of people ask about their hamstrings being sore after riding. So I wrote a blog about it. Check it out below. Exercise of the Month: Workout of the Week 1. Single Leg Hip Thrusts 3x8/side What I'm listening to: My husband and I celebrated our two-year anniversary this week, so we were listening to our playlist from what we played during our reception dinner. And let me tell you, there are some BANGERS. So if you're looking for a good playlist that spans the 60s rock to 90s grunge to 2000s DMB, this is the playlist for you. That's all I've got to start out November, folks. I'm still mourning the end to Halloween and keeping an eye out for good candy deals at the grocery store. Yours in fearless movement,

Hey, Chain Reaction fam, If I had a dollar for every patient who came in convinced their back pain was just a matter of weak abs, I could probably retire. I do not have those dollars. But I do have a lot of opinions about why that simplistic approach doesn’t work and why we need to have a more comprehensive approach. Here's the thing. People use "core" and "abs" like they mean the same thing. They don't. Your abs are one wall of a much bigger system. Your core is more like a soda can: it has...
Hey Reader, One of the reasons I called my practice Chain Reaction is because the body is exactly that…a chain reaction. If you’ve seen me, you know one of my favorite PT quips is: “The culprit is silent, the victim cries out.” What that means is the location where you’re having pain is often a symptom, not a cause of the pain. That’s why it’s so important to evaluate the entire body and look at how every joint, muscle, and system interact to get a full picture of what’s causing your pain and...
Hey Reader, I get asked a lot about the "best" core exercises. It feels like everyone has been told that their core is "weak" and that's the reason for their (insert body part here) pain. I'd like to argue that maybe your core isn’t weak, it’s just underutilized. Let’s differentiate. “Weak” = not strong, unable to drive force. “Underutilized” = unable to be recruited effectively, allows other muscles to work harder in its place. Sure, it can also be both. But since our body always works in...
